VET 402: HEMATOLOGY, LYMPHOID SYSTEM & COAGULATION
MODULE 1: BLOOD CELL MORPHOLOGY
- Red blood cells (RBCs): morphology by species, polychromatophilia, anisocytosis
- White blood cells: neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils
- Platelets and hemostatic function
- Species-specific hematologic parameters
- Abnormal RBC morphology: schistocytes, spherocytes, target cells, parasites
MODULE 2: BONE MARROW HEMATOPOIESIS
- Erythropoiesis: BFU-E to reticulocyte maturation
- Granulopoiesis: CFU-GM to neutrophil release
- Megakaryopoiesis: platelet production
- Myeloid:erythroid ratio interpretation
- Marrow examination: aspiration and biopsy
- Aplastic anemia vs. regenerative response
MODULE 3: LYMPHOID SYSTEM
- Lymph node histology and function
- Spleen: white pulp vs. red pulp
- Thymus: T cell development

MODULE 4: HEMOSTASIS & COAGULATION

- Anticoagulants: heparin, warfarin, DOACs in humans

MODULE 5: LABORATORY EVALUATION OF BLOOD DISORDERS
- Complete blood count (CBC): RBC parameters, WBC differential
- Blood smear interpretation
- Bone marrow aspirate analysis
- Coagulation studies: PT, aPTT, bleeding time, platelet count
- Species-specific reference ranges
- Interpretation of anemia (regenerative vs. non-regenerative)
